How Legislators Are Wasting Our Money

handgun.jpgIt’s not a secret that US court system is failing miserably nowadays, and how law departments trying to cover their problems by inflating the situation.

This week a lot of lawmakers in various US states are trying to pass a law which allow a judge carry a concealed weapon during his/her duty hours to protect themselves in the court house. Strange, isn’t it? The court houses have very tight security after 9/11, and only security guards are allowed to carry a gun.

Yet, there was a case in Atlanta, GA, in 2005, when a rape suspect, Brian Nichols shot and killed three people (one of them was judge) in a downtown courthouse and made a desperate escape, sparking a citywide manhunt.

Nichols was at the Fulton County Courthouse in downtown Atlanta to face charges of raping and holding his girlfriend prisoner. But before entering the courtroom, police say he grabbed a sheriff’s deputy’s gun and used it to kill three people, including Superior Court Judge Rowland Barnes.

Yet, the total failure of the local law officers should not be the reason for a major law change. One case is not enough to spend our money by legislators to debate this ridiculous matter. Instead, the security guards shout be better trained and be more responsible for those they protect. They should admit their failure and correct it without spending out tax money to justify their weaknesses.

If such law will be passed, that will mean we are back one step into the Wild West times.
