Scam: AM Press Association - Mags R Us

Two college kids came to my door this day and stated they were raising $15,000 to support their college payment by selling magazine subscription. They showed a laminated ID card with their photos, names and and AM Press Association logotype.

While helping kids to support their education is considered a good thing, the company behind that is a black hat company. They take money and never send you any subscription.

The kids are well trained and easily pick up a conversation, they can recognize details about yourself (feels like they had a basic training in NLP), and start from that - they can claim that they support your point of view, they are liberal or conservative, and so on. They also say they are out of state and travel to raise money for their college by going from door to door and selling the subscriptions, getting point towards the prize.

However, there are some red flags that ring the bell while talking to those kids: the receipts dont have any phone number or real address of the company, and you need to mail it to a P.O. box, so you cannot really make a claim. The kids insist to give them a check payable to cash right away, then the receipt state you need to mail the same amount with it to start your subscription, which basically means that you give away your money to those kids without any warranty.

We tried to find any information about the AM Press Association - we could not find anything except scam reports here and here. No any company web site was found.

Be aware of this scam.

Update: these is another story about Mags R Us: How Mags R Us are hiring kids and How parents are trying to find their kids

Parents, be aware that this company kidnaps your kids and forces them to work for them by brainwashing.

The company is owned by Lonnie R. Divine (also Lonnie Raymond Devine), and Brent’s last name is Williams. You can look Lonnie up on Google, and you or the mom can call Earlene Williams of Parent Watch at 212.666.3538 if you need additional help.
