Why I Would Never Switch from OpenOffice to Google Docs

I just recently saw an article “Why I Switched from OpenOffice to Google Docs” by Jim Lynch on Yahoo!News. Very inspiring, but…

Let me share with you my experience with Google Docs, so you can judge it by yourself. I had a presentation and I need to create a text document in collaboration with a colleague of mine. Everything was fine - I was about 50% through the text, very close to the completion, then suddenly I had a hiccup on my network - I lost internet connection for a minute, and then everything went bad - the client side of Google Docs freeze and would not reconnect to the Google server, nor let me copy it in the clipboard.

I re-login into my Google account and found that 30 minutes of my work were lost…

From that moment I decided that I always create and modify my documents in the offline mode, locally, in OpenOffice and if I need to share it with some one, then I upload it into Google Docs.

Cheers!
